The morning cruise offers an excellent opportunity for walking or cycling along the towpath. After lunch, tour Nancy, former capital of the Duchy of Lorraine. See Place Stanislas, a pedestrianized 18th-century square and UNESCO World Heritage Site, and visit Musée de l'École, devoted to the Art Nouveau movement dating from 1901. (B L D)
Day 3: TUESDAY

Day 4: WEDNESDAY
The cruise route continues through the Vosges Mountains today, taking 'La Nouvelle Etoile' through two dramatic tunnels. Experience the Arzviller Lift, constructed in 1969. Day 5: THURSDAY
Cruise to Saverne with another opportunity to walk or cycle the canalside towpath. After lunch, travel along the Route des Vins d'Alsace for a tasting at a local vineyard. Day 6: FRIDAY
After a final cruise to Strasbourg, there is time to explore the city's beautifully-preserved center. See the famous Gothic cathedral and Petite France district. Visit the Musée des Beaux-Arts, formerly a Baroque palace, with its collection of old masters. The barge hosts a gala farewell dinner this evening. (B L D)
