River Cruise Itinerary
Day 1 - Welcome to Lima
On arrival, you’ll be escorted to the stylish Hotel B in Barranco.
 
Day 2 - Explore Lima 
Discover Lima’s rich Colonial heritage at Casa Aliaga, built by one of Pizarro’s captains and still occupied by his family after 500 years. A curator from the Lima Art Museum offers insight into its vast collection spanning 3,000 years of culture. Dine tonight overlooking Huaca Pucllana, a sacred pyramid of the 4th century. (B+D)
 
Day 3 - Fly to Cuzco + travel into the Sacred Valley
On arrival in this high-mountain town, your expertly guided tour showcases the Colonial landmarks of the Plaza de Armas including the Cathedral. Then descend into the Sacred Valley to see llamas and alpacas and to learn about traditional weaving techniques still used throughout the Andes. Explore the market town of Pisac and check in to the luxurious Belmond Rio Sagrado. (B+L)
 
Day 4 - The Sacred Valley
Visit the massive Inca fortress of Ollantaytambo and sit down to lunch at Hacienda Huayoccari, a 17th-century estate with sweeping views of the valley. By special arrangement, famed ceramicist Pablo Seminario will lead a pottery workshop for our guests. (B+L)
 
Day 5 - Lost City of the Inca 
Travel by rail through the Sacred Valley, a region of timeless villages and terraced fields set against a spectacular mountain backdrop. Arrive in the town of Aguas Calientes and ascend to Machu Picchu to explore the Lost City as our guide expertly sheds light on the once-mighty Inca Empire and their extraordinary achievements. Spend the night atop the mountain at the exclusive Belmond Sanctuary Lodge, the only hotel adjacent to the Lost City. (B+L+D)
 
Day 6 - Behold sunrise at Machu Picchu
With the privileged location of our lodge, you’ll have first access to Machu Picchu early this morning. Before other visitors have even arrived, you can experience the majesty of this mountain citadel as the sun casts its first rays upon the ancient stones. On your return rail journey to Cuzco, you’ll stop in Chincheros, a small community known for the skill of its weavers. On arrival in Cuzco, you’ll be escorted to the luxurious Belmond Palacio Nazarenas, where oxygenated rooms promise comfort at the high elevation. (B+L)
 
Day 7 - Discover Cuzco 
Delve into Cuzco’s history at the Temple of the Sun and Sacsayhuaman, an imposing hilltop fortress with fine views of the city. At the lively San Pedro Market, you’ll encounter age-old traditions that still endure here in the high Andes. (B)
 
Day 8 - Welcome aboard the intimate Delfin II
Fly to Iquitos and tour this lively river port before traveling overland to Nauta. Board our exquisite ship and settle in to your hardwood-paneled stateroom. Enjoy a pisco cocktail as you take in the sights and sounds of the jungle from the open-air observation lounge. As your voyage gets underway, our shipboard naturalists will offer an informative briefing. (B+L+D)
 
Day 9 - To the headwaters of the Amazon
You’ll spend the next three days exploring the headwaters of the Amazon River, venturing deep inside Peru’s Pacaya Samiria National Reserve - one of the largest expanses of untouched rainforest in the world. Led by our expert naturalists, you’ll venture out in maneuverable skiffs and on guided jungle walks to observe and learn about the diverse flora and fauna. Gray and pink river dolphins, parrots, hummingbirds, scarlet macaws, sloths, butterflies, and squirrel monkeys are among the creatures that are regularly spotted. Early morning adventures are a time to witness the Amazon coming to life. Thrilling night safaris offer a chance to espy nocturnal species like caiman and fishing bats. Palm swamps, dry forest and the mesmerizing mirror-like waterways of a flooded forest are among the diverse eco-systems to be explored. In Puerto Miguel, you’ll meet local villagers and learn about life in this remote Amazon community. (B+L+D)

Day 12 - Disembark + Fly to Lima
Step off ship in Nauta and visit the Rescue and Rehabilitation Center of River Mammals. See baby manatees and learn about the center’s work to protect this and other endangered species. Continue to Iquitos and fly to Lima where our staff will escort you to your onward connection. (B)
