DAY 1 ARRIVE MOSCOW, RUSSIA
Upon arrival in Moscow, you are met and transferred to your hotel.
 
DAY 2 MOSCOW | ICONS OF THE CAPITAL
Begin your exploration of this grand capital at the Kremlin, the spiritual, historic and political heart of Moscow. Here, tour the Archangel and Assumption cathedrals and browse the treasures of the Tsars in the historic Armory Chamber. Continue on to visit Moscow icons such as Red Square, St Basil’s Cathedral and Christ the Savior Cathedral. (Breakfast)
 
DAY 3 MOSCOW | CELEBRATING THE FINE ARTS
This morning, visit the Tretyakov Gallery, home to the world’s foremost collection of Russian fine art. Next explore the Novodevichy Convent, one of the finest examples of 16th- and 17th-century architecture in the city. Browse the convent museum’s rare collection of early artwork, continuing on to reveal a cemetery that marks the final resting place of Chekhov, Prokofiev, Yeltsin and Khrushchev, to name a few. Later, visit the Moscow subway, a shockingly elaborate space adorned with chandeliers, statues and intricate details. This evening, step aboard luxurious ‘MS Volga Dream’ to enjoy the Captain's welcome reception and begin your voyage along Russia’s glorious waterways. (Breakfast, Dinner)
 
DAY 4 UGLICH | PROUD LEGACY OF TRADE
Idyllic forests give way to the historic trading town of Uglich as ‘MS Volga Dream’ docks in her first port of call. Disembark to explore the Church of St. Dmitri-on-the-Blood, an impressive structure marking the site where Dmitri, son of Ivan the Terrible, was murdered in 1591. Conclude your shore excursion with a visit to a local family home, sharing tea and conversation with your hosts. Enjoy a movie aboard this evening. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
 
DAY 5 YAROSLAVL | MERCHANTS’ BASTION
Today, ‘MS Volga Dream’ pauses in the prosperous commercial center of Yaroslavl. Tour the city’s dazzling merchant homes, beautiful churches and a lovely riverfront. Next, explore an imposing walled fortress, the Treasures of Yaroslavl exhibit on the grounds of Savior Transfiguration Monastery and the 17th-century Church of St. Elijah. This evening, enjoy a traditional Russian tea ceremony and cooking class back aboard ‘MS Volga Dream.’ (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
 
DAY 6 GORITSY | MONASTIC TRADITIONS
At Goritsy, explore beautiful Cyril-Belozersky Monastery and its dazzling collection of icons and frescoes. Commissioned by Ivan the Terrible, Cyril-Belozersky endures as one of Russia’s most prominent monasteries. Continue on to Ferapontov Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with magnificent frescoes dating back to the 15th century. Back aboard, take in the beautiful Russian landscape as you cruise past small towns and villages en route to your next destination. Cap off your evening with a traditional Russian dinner and vodka tasting. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
 
DAY 7 KIZHI ISLAND | ENCLAVE UNTOUCHED BY TIME
This morning, cruise to Kizhi Island, home to a collection of 17th- and 18th-century wooden homes and churches — all untouched by the hand of time. Take in the Church of Transfiguration’s exquisite, onion-shaped domes as you learn the extraordinary legend of their construction. DAY 8 SVIRSTROY | FORGING A LOCAL CONNECTION
Today, forge a local connection in the charming suburb of Svirstroy. Join a local family in their home for tea, pirozhkie (pie) and conversation, gaining authentic insights into regional traditions and lifestyles. Next, tour the nearby town, visiting a World War II monument and a local primary school. Later this evening, enjoy an al fresco barbeque on the decks of ‘MS Volga Dream.’ (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
 
DAY 9 PUSHKIN & ST. PETERSBURG | BAROQUE MASTERPIECE
This morning, bid farewell to ‘MS Volga Dream’ and her crew in St. Petersburg. Continue overland to the lovely countryside village of Pushkin and tour the sparkling grounds of Catherine Palace. Built in the mid-18th century for Tsarina Elizabeth, the palace remains an enduring icon of Russian baroque architecture. Return to St. Petersburg for a visit to St. Isaac’s Cathedral, its gilded dome dominating the skyline. Sculptures and massive red granite columns ornament the façade, while the interior boasts lavish mosaics, icons and columns of malachite and lapis lazuli. Check in to your luxurious hotel for an evening at leisure. (Breakfast)
 
DAY 10 ST. PETERSBURG | ECHOES OF THE ROMANOVS
Delve deeper into the cultural treasures of St. Petersburg at the Hermitage Museum. Tour six magnificent buildings housing three million works of art spanning the Stone Age to modern times. Continue on to Zayachy Island, home of the Peter and Paul Fortress. Founded by Peter the Great in 1703, this imposing citadel was designed to defend his recent conquests from Sweden. The fortress has since served as a political prison, private cemetery to the Romanovs and, at present, a museum. Cap off your day’s explorations with a visit to the opulent Church on Spilled Blood. DAY 11 ST. PETERSBURG | TREASURES OF THE TSARS
Today, venture overland to explore the exquisite former summer estate of Peter the Great, the Peterhof Palace. Nestled on the shores of the Baltic, this grand palace fulfilled the dream its namesake envisioned during his 1717 visit to the Palace of Versailles. Next, board a hydrofoil for a return cruise to St. Petersburg up the Neva River. Disembark for a private tour of the Fabergé Museum, taking in glittering objets d’art created by Peter Carl Fabergé, jeweler to the tsars. Cap off your visit with a glimpse of the master craftsman’s celebrated million-dollar Imperial Easter eggs. (Breakfast)
