The upfront price of your vacation covers onboard meals and unlimited wine, beer and soft drinks at lunch and dinner, plus a "Sip & Sail" cocktail hour. You can also enjoy an included night at the Chef's Table Restaurant. Here, your dinner is a special experience with six courses and a selection of wine, and chefs prepare and plate the meal in front of you.

Many staterooms have twin balconies: a French balcony with glass doors that open to a railing and a full balcony that you can walk out on. Meals feature locally sourced ingredients, recipes and wine.

AmaWaterways' options for exploring each port of call include walking tours of historic districts, guided hiking and biking excursions, special culinary experiences and more.

Next year, the line will introduce new Magdalena River cruises in Colombia. These itineraries visit beautiful villages and diverse cities along the river and explore Colombia's vibrant culture and history. The ship travels between Cartagena and Barranquilla, and some itineraries include pre- or post-cruise hotel stays in cities like Medellin and Panama City.

Some of our river sailings are theme cruises, focusing on culinary traditions, Christmas markets, historical events and more. I've listed all of the options below -- click the links to see discounts and deals and search for itineraries.

A few companies offer shorter river cruises that provide customers with an opportunity to sample the experience. For example, Avalon Waterways has itineraries of four to six days on the Danube and Rhine and CroisiEurope offers a variety of four- and five-day cruises, including sailings on the Elbe and Seine. American Cruise Lines offers Mississippi and Columbia river cruises that are less than a week long.
