Dear Vacations To Go Customer,

I'd like to start today by sending best wishes to all the victims of Hurricane Florence in my home state of North Carolina and in South Carolina. As a child, my annual family vacation was always to one of the hard-hit beach towns near where Florence made landfall, and I looked forward to it all year long.

As I write this, at least 19 people have died and more are missing or unaccounted for, hundreds of thousands of homes and businesses are without electricity, and entire cities and towns are cut off from the outside world due to impassable roads. The water is still rising in some rivers and bays, and dams and levees in coastal areas are in danger of failing.

It's been barely a year since the floodwaters of Hurricane Harvey began to rise here in Houston, taking lives and property and livelihoods. The 800 Houston-based employees of Vacations To Go send our heartfelt condolences to all who are dealing with the same in the Carolinas.

Vacations To Go will donate $100,000 to relief and recovery efforts in the hardest hit areas in the Carolinas. We are vetting local, long-established charities now and I will announce in next week's newsletter where we sent our donation.

I'm pleased to announce our Rhine River hosted singles cruise for August 10, 2019. Take in spectacular views of cliff-top castles, terraced vineyards and postcard-perfect villages on a sailing from Amsterdam to the Swiss city of Basel aboard the 138-passenger MS Monarch Countess. The upfront rate for the nine-day trip includes your river-view cabin, onboard meals, late-night snacks, unlimited wine and beer with dinners, Wi-Fi in public areas of the ship and shore excursions in each port.

Vacations To Go has been hosting singles cruises on oceangoing cruise ships since 2005. They are immensely popular -- we've booked more than 30,000 passengers on these fun-filled trips. Our Rhine River singles cruise will include group excursions, mixers and "single-mingle" dining. A Vacations To Go host will be on board to make introductions, organize events and ensure that everyone has a great time.

The included excursions in port are led by local experts. A walking tour of Cologne highlights its magnificent twin-spired cathedral, which took six centuries to complete. In Koblenz follow narrow lanes to picturesque squares and Romanesque churches. The Alsatian city of Strasbourg blends French and German cultures; guests will explore La Petite France, a district filled with half-timbered homes dating to the 16th and 17th centuries.

I'd like to share some special offers and news from Riviera River Cruises, one of the UK's leading river cruise companies. The line is known for its personalized service, highly experienced tour managers and itineraries that showcase top sights as well as lesser-known gems.

Vacations To Go customers can receive a free drinks package that includes beer, wine and soft drinks during lunch and dinner on any sailing when you book by September 21. The package normally costs $79 to $299 per person, depending on the length of the cruise.

In addition, solo travelers can avoid the single supplement in select cabins on a variety of Riviera departures through November 2019 -- click here for these sailings.

The upfront price of a Riviera cruise includes all onboard meals, bottled water, coffee, tea, Wi-Fi and daily guided shore excursions. Most of the line's Swiss-built ships have a pool, fitness room, sauna, steam room, salon and library. Dining encompasses international favorites and regional European dishes, and guests will find options from an early riser's breakfast to midnight snacks.

Riviera will launch two new ships in April 2019. The MS William Wordsworth will carry up to 168 passengers on Danube River cruises that sail round trip from Budapest. The 132-guest MS George Eliot will debut on Dutch and Belgian waterways, then move to primarily cruising the Rhine River.

Next year, Riviera will introduce a new itinerary, Rhine Cruise to Switzerland with Glacier Express Extension. This trip includes stays in the Swiss cities of Chur and Zermatt and a ride on the famed Glacier Express train.

We have a fantastic offer for our river cruise customers from Holland America Line. Its elegant ships sail voyages worldwide, providing impeccable service and a variety of onboard programs that you can take advantage of as you cruise from port to port.

Save up to 81%, plus receive exclusive shipboard credits of up to $400 per cabin on select sailings. Shipboard credits are as good as cash and can be used toward onboard purchases not covered in the upfront fare, such as shore excursions and Internet packages. Past guests may see better rates on select cruises. Click here for departures.

Popular Holland America sailing regions include the Caribbean, Alaska, Bermuda, the Mediterranean and Northern Europe. There are a variety of itineraries in Asia, South America, Australia and New Zealand, as well as Panama Canal transits and trans-Atlantic crossings.

Ships carry 835 to 2,666 passengers. You'll find a variety of dining venues, spas, fitness centers and engaging programs. The line has partnered with America's Test Kitchen to offer live cooking shows and hands-on classes, while the Digital Workshop provides small-group instruction in high-tech topics. Holland America also works with BBC Earth to bring nature-based features on board, like "Planet Earth II in Concert," which combines spectacular wildlife footage with live music.

Holland America's newest ship, the Nieuw Statendam, successfully completed its sea trials in Italy last month and will launch in December. The vessel will spend winter sailing to the Caribbean from Fort Lauderdale.

Numerous river cruise operators recognize that many of their guests want options for staying fit while traveling. These lines offer wellness and fitness options on board -- like gyms, spas and pools -- and provide unique and active ways to explore ashore.

For example, Avalon offers Active Discovery itineraries on the Danube, Rhine and -- new for 2019 -- the Rhone. Each port call includes energetic outings, where you can hike in a Hungarian national park, bicycle through Vienna or paddle a canoe amid the gorges of the Ardeche.

AmaWaterways will expand its wellness program from six ships in 2018 to fleetwide in 2019. Onboard wellness hosts lead fitness classes (like stretching, core strengthening and resistance-band training), lectures and discussions. The line also provides guided hiking, biking and jogging excursions.

Uniworld's "Let's Go" shore excursions highlight guided walking, hiking, cycling, kayaking and golfing tours; bicycle to Claude Monet's home at Giverny or hike up to a 12th-century castle on the Rhine. The line's Wellness on the Water amenities include yoga sessions, TRX suspension training classes with certified instructors, fitness centers and heated pools.

Several other operators offer passengers the choice of an active outing among their complimentary shore excursions in port. For example, Emerald has the EmeraldACTIVE program, which might include a guided bike tour in Austria's Wachau Valley along the Danube or a hike in Germany's Black Forest. Its sister company, Scenic, has similar options; hike between wine villages in France's Bordeaux region or cycle through the Dutch town of Veere on a guided excursion.

AmaWaterways, Avalon Waterways, Crystal, Emerald, Scenic, Tauck and Uniworld keep fleets of complimentary bicycles on their ships, so passengers can pedal along riverside paths or through cities and towns on their own. Crystal and Scenic have electronically assisted bikes that help propel you all or part of the time.
