Day 2: MONDAY
Drive into the Sauternais region today to sample the local vintages at Château Guiraud and Domaine Rousset-Peyraguey. Then cruise through a set of locks on the Garonne River to Cadillac, mooring at the foot of this bastide (planned medieval town). Visit Château de Roquetaillade, an impressive eighth-century castle. Day 3: TUESDAY
Cruise to Bordeaux today, past Pont de Pierre to the Port of the Moon, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that encompasses the city's center and offers lovely panoramic views. Enjoy time at leisure in Bordeaux to soak up the atmosphere or shop in the fine boutiques. (B L D)
Day 4: WEDNESDAY
Continue cruising along the Garonne River to visit the citadel at Blaye, a remarkable 17th-century fortress designed by Vauban, France’s legendary military engineer. After lunch, travel to Château Falfas in the Côtes de Bourg for a tasting of the estate's fine wines. (B L D)
Day 5: THURSDAY
Cruise the Gironde estuary to the Médoc Peninsula, an area known for its viticulture. From Pauillac, take a drive through this famous wine region to visit a noted wine estate for a tasting. After lunch, cruise to Bourg to visit the museum of horse-drawn carriages and enjoy a walk through the town. (B L D)
Day 6: FRIDAY
The cruise continues along the Dordogne River to Libourne. Enjoy a memorable excursion to the medieval village of Saint-Émilion with its cellars dug out of solid rock. Stroll down the old cobblestone lanes to the 14th-century cardinal's palace. Visit the monolithic church, the largest underground church in Europe with eighth-century catacombs. Stop for a wine tasting at Château Rochebelle before returning to your barge for a gala farewell dinner on board tonight. (B L D)
Day 7: SATURDAY
After breakfast, return to Bordeaux, arriving in late morning. (B)
Lovely 'Mirabelle' travels on the Canal des Deux Mers and the Garonne and Dordogne Rivers with an itinerary that highlights the vintages of this famous wine region. There are also opportunities to accompany your onboard gourmet chef to the morning market, then watch as dinner is prepared.
