DAY 1, Thursday - Depart for Switzerland Depart for Switzerland.
DAY 2, Friday - Arrive in Basel Today, arrive in Basel. This evening, enjoy a Welcome Drink and orientation meeting with your local host about the journey at approximately 6 PM at the hotel. We recommend that you select flights which arrive in your destination no later than 2 PM on Day 2 or earlier, if possible.
DAY 3, Saturday - Basel City Tour This morning, enjoy a city tour of Basel, the geographical point where the Swiss, German and French borders meet. Explore the Kleinbasel district along the Rhine River, the old buildings and narrow alleyways of Grossbasel, and "Tinguely Fountain," a unique fountain designed by the Swiss artist Jean Tinguely. The rest of your day is free to explore and take in the cultural capital of Switzerland, or perhaps join the optional Black Forrest tour which will take you to Rothaus, where you will visit the Husli. Then travel to the town of Schluchsee where you will enjoy a beautiful, panoramic view of the surrounding valleys from atop Schauinsland Mountain. (Breakfast)

DAY 4, Sunday - Cruise Embarkation Time for last minute sightseeing in Basel. Admire the city's Gothic and Romanesque architecture, visit one of the city's world renowned museums, or perhaps indulge in some Swiss desserts, such as Basler Läckerli cookies, or Mässmogge candies before an afternoon transfer to port. After arrival formalities, rest and relax on board. This evening, meet your Cruise Director, and enjoy a gala Welcome Dinner as it sets the mood for your delightful river cruise. (Breakfast, Dinner)
DAY 5, Monday - Strasbourg City Tour A lovely day awaits you in the Alsace capital of Strasbourg, situated on the border of France and Germany, blending the cultures of both countries. Discover Strasbourg on the tour highlighting the city's center, designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Of special note is the stunning Gothic Cathedral, an exquisite example of late Gothic architecture, that houses one of the finest astronomical clocks in existence. See the magical La Petite France district, home to quaint shops and charming bistros, Place Kleber, a large historic square in the center of the city and Place Gutenberg, dedicated to the inventor of the printing press. DAY 6, Tuesday - Mainz Walking Tour & Afternoon Cruising Today, visit Mainz, the birthplace of Johannes Gutenberg, the inventor of printing. The city is dominated by the majestic St. Martin’s Cathedral, the “Mainzer Dom” and the Gutenberg Museum that houses the very first printed Bible. Immerse yourself in the ambiance of the Market Square. Later, stroll through the Old Town with its medieval half-timbered houses and charming wine taverns. Afterward, return to the ship. Enjoy a relaxing afternoon on board, taking in the spectacular vistas as the ship sails past castles perched on lofty cliffs, terraced vineyards and tiny villages. Pass the mighty Lorelei Rock on the eastern bank of the Rhine rising vertically from the waters, named for the siren "Lorelei" who bewitched sailors passing by. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
DAY 7, Wednesday - Koblenz City Tour & Afternoon Cruising This morning, arrive in Koblenz, located at the confluence of the Rhine and Moselle Rivers. Join a city tour and spend free time to explore the Romanesque architecture and imposing defensive towers of this 2000-year old city. This afternoon, continue sailing towards Cochem. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
DAY 8, Thursday - Morning in Cochem & Afternoon Cruising Awake this morning in the charming medieval town of Cochem with its half-timbered houses, surrounded by steep vineyards. Visit Cochem’s majestic Reichsburg Castle located on a hilltop, offering panoramic views of the Moselle Valley and river bend. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
DAY 9, Friday - Twin Town of Traben-Trarbach & Bernkastel Walking Tour This morning, explore the twin town of Traben-Trarbach, connected by a pedestrian-friendly bridge. The town straddling a bend in the Moselle River, and tucked among lush vineyards is the jewel of Central Moselle. Take a guided walking tour of the town and discover its Art Nouveau architecture. Learn how Traben-Trarbach became the second largest marketplace in the 1900's for wine trading in Europe. Afterward, spend time on your own, before returning to the ship for lunch. This afternoon, discover Bernkastel, a charming village positioned in the middle of the Moselle Valley's wine producing region. Walk through its colorful Old Town center, medieval marketplace and 17th century timber-framed houses. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
DAY 10, Saturday - Trier City Tour & Afternoon Cruising Today, on your walking tour of Trier, known as the “Rome of the North” pass by the Porta Nigra Gate, the city's landmark, Trier Cathedral, and The Church of Our Lady, the oldest Gothic church in Germany. View Hauptmarkt, a colorful bustling marketplace in Trier's city square. Spend free time on your own in the city, before returning to the ship. Tonight, enjoy a lavish captain's dinner and share wonderful memories of your river cruise with your newfound friends. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
DAY 11, Sunday - Luxembourg City Tour This morning, disembark and transfer to Luxembourg, the capital of the small nation of the same name. With a population of only 500,000 residents, Luxembourg is more like a large town rather than a country. In the late morning, explore this beautiful city on a walking tour where you will view sights such as the Place d’Armes, Constitution Square, & the Old Town. The rest of your day is free to spend discovering everything this city has to offer. (Breakfast)
DAY 12, Monday - Full Day in Luxembourg Today, enjoy the delights of Luxembourg independently. Explore the city's medieval streets, visit local shops & cafes, or perhaps taste some traditional Luxembourg dishes, such as Judd mat Gaardebounen, a smoked collar of pork with broad beans. Perhaps join the optional Half Day Historic Cities of Luxembourg tour, which takes you to the spa town of Mondorf-les-Bains, Schengen, a wine-making village, best-known for its founding status of the Schengen Agreement, & Remich and Grevenmacher, two quaint towns in the Moselle region surrounded by vineyards. Know Before You Book - High & Low Water European river cruising has gained in popularity for very good reason. It's a relaxing and convenient way to experience Europe while enjoying the comfort of a deluxe ship. However, before making the decision to reserve your vacation, please be aware of potential conditions which may impact your cruise. While most of the time river cruises operate exactly as planned, weather conditions may result in high or low water levels which impact a ship's itinerary and, on occasion, render a ship unable to sail at all. On very rare occasions, other events such as heavy fog, a damaged lock, or an incapacitated vessel blocking the river, may impact a sailing. These events typically occur with little or no notice. In the event that a cruise is partially or completely impacted, the itinerary will be operated by deluxe motor coach, accompanied by a Tour Manager, with overnights in hotels. The itinerary will include as many of the originally scheduled sightseeing features as possible, considering the travel time and distances required, as well as meals. While it is not possible to recreate the more leisurely comforts of sailings, we will endeavor to provide a comparable itinerary. These alternative services will be provided at no additional charge.
This moderately active trip covers a fair amount of ground each day. Expect from three to four hours walking every touring day. The pace is moderate, however you will encounter some uneven surfaces, stairs, steps and significant slopes. There is a potential for a small number of sailings to be impacted by river water levels, or other factors which may impact safe navigation. This may cause part or all of the cruise itinerary to be operated by motor coach and may also involve hotel accommodations.
