DAY 1, Saturday - Depart for the Netherlands Depart for the Netherlands.
DAY 2, Sunday - Arrive in Amsterdam Welcome to Amsterdam, Holland's sophisticated and modern capital. After arrival formalities, rest and relax on board, or begin your discovery of the many cultural sites this city has to offer. This evening, meet your Cruise Director and enjoy a gala Welcome Dinner as it sets the mood for your delightful river cruise. (D)
DAY 3, Monday - Amsterdam City Tour & Afternoon Cruising Today's panoramic tour of 700-year-old Amsterdam introduces you to both the old and the new sections of this city. View the Royal Palace on Amsterdam's Dam Square, the Queen's official home-away-from-home. On to the Dutch National Monument dedicated by Queen Juliana as a memorial to the victims of WWII and to the unusual Skinny Bridge, once so narrow that pedestrians could not pass each other. Then, board a glass-top boat and cruise the winding canals for an up-close view of the stately historic homes, 16th-century warehouses and charming churches with striking bell towers. Tonight, the ship sails south towards Germany. (B,L,D)
DAY 4, Tuesday - Cologne City Tour Sail on the legendary Rhine to Cologne, one of Germany's largest cities and capital of the Rhineland, arriving as you enjoy lunch on board. Your walking tour of the city is highlighted by the soaring, twin-steeple Gothic cathedral that is the geographical and spiritual heart of the city. Known for its vibrant art scene, Cologne abounds with cafes, galleries, shops and taverns. After dinner on board, time to explore Cologne's vibrant night life before setting sail. (B,L,D)
DAY 5, Wednesday - Morning in Koblenz & Afternoon Cruising This morning, arrive in Koblenz, located at the confluence of the Rhine and Moselle Rivers. Join a walking tour and spend free time to explore the Romanesque architecture and imposing defensive towers of this 2000-year old city. This afternoon, continue sailing towards Cochem. (B,L,D)
DAY 6, Thursday - Morning in Cochem & Afternoon Cruising Awake this morning in the charming medieval town of Cochem with its half-timbered houses, surrounded by steep vineyards. Visit Cochem’s majestic Reichsburg Castle located on a hilltop, offering panoramic views of the Moselle Valley and river bend. (B,L,D)
DAY 7, Friday - Twin Town of Traben-Trarbach & Bernkastel Walking Tour This morning, explore the twin town of Traben-Trarbach, connected by a pedestrian-friendly bridge. The town straddling a bend in the Moselle River, and tucked among lush vineyards is the jewel of Central Moselle. Take a guided walking tour of the town and discover its Art Nouveau architecture. Learn how Traben-Trarbach became the second largest marketplace in the 1900's for wine trading in Europe. Afterward, spend time on your own, before returning to the ship for lunch. This afternoon, discover Bernkastel, a charming village positioned in the middle of the Moselle Valley's wine producing region. Walk through its colorful Old Town center, medieval marketplace and 17th century timber-framed houses. (B,L,D)
DAY 8, Saturday - Trier City Tour & Afternoon Cruising Today, on your walking tour of Trier, known as the “Rome of the North” pass by the Porta Nigra Gate, the city's landmark, Trier Cathedral, and The Church of Our Lady, the oldest Gothic church in Germany. View Hauptmarkt, a colorful bustling marketplace in Trier's city square. Spend free time on your own in the city, before returning to the ship. Tonight, enjoy a lavish captain's dinner and share wonderful memories of your river cruise with your newfound friends. (B,L,D)
DAY 9, Sunday - Luxembourg City Tour This morning, disembark and transfer to Luxembourg, the capital of the small nation of the same name. With a population of only 500,000 residents, Luxembourg is more like a large city rather than a country. In the late morning, embark on a walking tour of this beautiful city, where you will view sights such as the Palais Grand-Ducal, the official residence of the Grand Duke and royal family of Luxembourg. Visit the Constitution Square, & the Old Quarter with its cobblestone streets and lush gardens. Spend the rest of your day on your own, discovering everything this city has to offer. (B)
DAY 10, Monday - Full Day in Luxembourg Today, enjoy the delights of Luxembourg independently. Explore the city's medieval streets, visit local shops & cafes, or perhaps taste some traditional Luxembourg dishes, such as Judd mat Gaardebounen, a smoked collar of pork with broad beans. Perhaps join the optional Half Day Historic Cities of Luxembourg tour, which takes you to the spa town of Mondorf-les-Bains, Schengen, a wine-making village, best-known for its founding status of the Schengen Agreement, & Remich and Grevenmacher, two quaint towns in the Moselle region surrounded by vineyards. DAY 11, Tuesday - Reims City Tour Today, on your way to Paris, take a morning tour of Reims, a lovely city in Northeastern France that is famous for its champagne and its impressive 900-year-old cathedral. After your morning city tour, arrive in Paris and check into your hotel. The rest of your day is at leisure. (B)
DAY 12, Wednesday - Tour of Paris Drive along the famous Champs Elysees to the Arc de Triomphe and the iconic Eiffel Tower, a symbol of Paris. On to the celebrated "Rive Gauche", the vivacious Left Bank where artists, philosophers, and writers in a long gone era flourished in the artistic community at Montparnasse. View the Latin Quarter, home to many of France’s higher education establishments, such as the Sorbonne. Spend the rest of the afternoon at leisure. (B)
DAY 13, Thursday - Full Day in Paris The day is yours to explore this exciting city independently. See spectacular views of the city, the Basilica of Sacre Coeur, and walk the winding streets to mingle with the street artists selling their wares at Place du Tertre. Don't miss the optional tour to magnificent Versailles to witness the grandeur of French classical architecture on the visit to the Palace and the extravagant State Apartments. This evening, perhaps stop at a bistro for dinner coupled with great wine. (B)

Cruise only price does not include arrival/departure transfers. Amsterdam to Trier: Embarkation will begin at 2 PM however early arrivals may rest in the lounge if their assigned cabin is not ready upon check-in. Due to physical constraints and space limitations, wheelchairs and walkers are not allowed on motor coaches and/or river cruises. There are no elevators or chair lifts on board. While sailing with Monarch Cruises, passengers are subject to the cruise's Terms & Conditions.
European river cruising has gained in popularity for very good reason. It's a relaxing and convenient way to experience Europe while enjoying the comfort of a deluxe ship. However, before making the decision to reserve your vacation, please be aware of potential conditions which may impact your cruise. While most of the time river cruises operate exactly as planned, weather conditions may result in high or low water levels which impact a ship's itinerary and, on occasion, render a ship unable to sail at all. On very rare occasions, other events such as heavy fog, a damaged lock, or an incapacitated vessel blocking the river, may impact a sailing. These events typically occur with little or no notice. In the event that a cruise is partially or completely impacted, the itinerary will be operated by deluxe motor coach, accompanied by a Tour Manager, with overnights in hotels. When the option exists, the operator will "swap ships" with another vessel sailing in the opposite direction, retaining the sailing experience. Crew, ship and cabin configuration may differ. The itinerary will include as many of the originally scheduled sightseeing features as possible, considering the travel time and distances required, as well as meals. While it is not possible to recreate the more leisurely comforts of sailings, we will endeavor to provide a comparable itinerary. These alternative services will be provided at no additional charge.
This moderately active trip covers a fair amount of ground each day. Expect from three to four hours walking every touring day. The pace is moderate, however you will encounter some uneven surfaces, stairs, steps and significant slopes. There is a potential for a small number of sailings to be impacted by river water levels, or other factors which may impact safe navigation. This may cause part or all of the cruise itinerary to be operated by motor coach and may also involve hotel accommodations.
