Day 2 Budapest

Day 4 Vienna

Wander past merchants selling Weihnachtspunsch, a spiked, spicy punch, and roasted chestnuts—the perfect accompaniment as you browse stalls brimming with beeswax candles and hand-blown glass ornaments.

Arrive in Vienna this morning, and visit Schönbrunn Palace, host to an intimate, upscale Christmas market during the holiday season. Day 5 Dürnstein > Melk

You may instead choose to visit a local winery for a guided tour of the cellars and vines, followed by a tasting of the region’s celebrated Grüner Veltliners and Rieslings.

Experience the wonder of Christmas on an 8 day magical Danube cruise from Budapest to Nuremberg. Visit the picturesque markets of Thurn und Taxis Palace. The Christmas markets along the Danube are an incredible sight. Festive market stalls fully decorated with fairy lights, piled with gingerbread and delicate Christmas glass ornaments, are surrounded by medieval houses. In the heart of Europe’s grand waterway region, rug up and immerse yourself in the enchanting atmosphere of the Christmas markets, which have brought magic to the banks of the Danube River for centuries.Spend seven nights cruising the majestic Danube as you sail from Nuremberg to Budapest.

These departures will be accompanied by a National Geographic expert who will give talks throughout the week and join guests on off-ship excursions. Additionally, a National Geographic photographer will be on board to share techniques and help guests hone their photography skills. We've added extra choice excursions as well, from hikes and bike rides to in-depth learning experiences that focus on the natural world, culture, and history.

National Geographic Photographer (December 3, 2020 departure): Krista Rossow
For more than a decade, Krista Rossow has worked as a photographer, photo editor, and educator for National Geographic. She began her career as a photo editor at National Geographic Traveler magazine, where she shaped compelling stories from world-class imagery. In her freelance career, she has shot feature stories as a contributing photographer for Traveler in South Africa, Costa Rica, New Zealand, Japan, and various U.S. cities. She regularly judges Instagram contests for @NatGeoTravel and photo edits for National Geographic Books. Krista sees the camera as a tool for understanding new cultures, meeting the locals, and exploring the natural world. She travels with National Geographic Expeditions teaching photography around the world–from the Galápagos Islands, Patagonia, and Morocco to Alaska, Antarctica, and the Arctic. She enjoys photographing throughout Europe as well, and spent a year after college in Bavaria exploring the quaint villages,stunning castles, and art-filled cities of Southern Germany and Austria. Her images are represented by the National Geographic Image Collection.
